The North American Menopause Society Provides Answers
to End Menopause Confusion

September is National Menopause Awareness Month in the United States.  Congress declared this special designated month to draw attention to the large public health challenge that menopause brings—and to reinforce that women and their healthcare providers must have accurate, unbiased menopause-related information to make informed decisions that will lead to improved health and quality of life both around menopause and beyond. That’s where The North American Menopause Society (NAMS) can help.

Now in its 20th year, NAMS is uniquely qualified to serve as the definitive menopause resource for answers to end menopause confusion, thanks to its multidisciplinary membership of 2,000 professionals representing a variety of disciplines including clinical and basic science experts from medicine, nursing, pharmacy, anthropology, sociology, psychology, and complementary/alternative medicine.

  • Healthcare providers can look to NAMS for the most current research and how to apply that research to clinical practice. For example, the NAMS 2009 Annual Meeting, convening in San Diego on September 30-October 3, will bring the latest news to 1,500 healthcare providers.
  • Women around menopause can look to NAMS to help them understand truth, not trends. The NAMS Web site and its monthly e-newsletter Menopause Flashes (subscribe here) provide a wealth of information. Plus, a Consumer Education Event scheduled for October 24, 2009, in Cleveland provides an opportunity for up to 1,000 women to learn from experts and have their questions answered (contact NAMS at 440/442-7550 for more details).
  • The media can also look to NAMS for facilitating enlightening interviews with worldclass experts in the field, including among others:

Wulf H. Utian, MD, PhD, DSc(Med), NCMP
NAMS Executive Director and Honorary Founding President
President, The NAMS Foundation
Consultant, Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women's Health Institute, Cleveland Clinic
Professor Emeritus, Case Western Reserve University
Cleveland, OH

Margery L.S. Gass, MD, NCMP
NAMS Executive Director Designate
Cleveland, OH
Formerly Professor, Clinical ObGyn
University of Cincinnati College of Medicine
Director for University Hospital Menopause and Osteoporosis Center
Cincinnati, OH

For interviews, contact Ms. Judy Cerne or Ms. Laura Fredrick at McKinney Advertising & Public Relations by phone 216/621-5133 or e-mail (jcerne@mckinneyad.com, lfredrick@mckinneyad.com).

The need for quality information does not end with the month of September. NAMS requests gifts to help it continue its critical Mission. To this end, NAMS invites healthcare providers, the media, and the general public to a gala—“A Tribute to Wulf Utian… A Benefit to Support Women’s Health”—at the Renaissance Hotel Cleveland beginning at 7 PM on October 24, 2009. The gala will not only raise funds, but also recognize Dr. Utian’s career and contributions to women’s health on the occasion of his retirement from NAMS at year’s end. For more details, contact the NAMS office (440/442-7550).
