The Society developed a competency examination program in 2002 to
- Set the standards for menopause practice
- Assist women in locating clinicians who could provide optimal menopause-related healthcare
How to Earn the MSCP Credential
Details and an application form are found in the printed Candidate Handbook, a copy of which can be downloaded. It is important to read all of the exam-related policies in the Candidate Handbook before applying to take the exam. Please note the results from the June 2024 exam offering will be delayed as a new exam form is introduced.
Eligibility Requirements
- Candidates must be licensed healthcare practitioners, including, but not limited to, physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, and psychologists.
- A photocopy of the applicant’s current license must be submitted with the examination application
and fee.
Suggested Study Materials
There is no study guide for the exam. However, The Society publishes many professional education resources that may be helpful in preparing for the exam. Menopause Practice: A Clinician’s Guide is The Society’s most comprehensive professional resource. Healthcare providers should seek out additional information from other reputable sources as well.

In Person Testing
Candidates can now choose to schedule take their exam at a test center, in place of Live Remote Proctoring. This option requires an additional fee of $20.00, separate from the application fee. This fee is non-refundable, and is to be paid at the time you receive your Notice to Schedule email. Please do NOT schedule your Test Center appointment until you have paid the fee directly with Candidate Services at 919-572-6880 via telephone.

Fees
- The fees to either take the exam or maintain the credential are $375 (Society member) and $675 (nonmember).

Recognition of Competency
- Eligible candidates who pass the examination will receive the MSCP credential.
- The credential is valid for 3 years. For example, if you received your credential at any time during
calendar year 2024, you have through December 31, 2027, to maintain it.
- To maintain credential status, there are two options: reexamination or submit the appropriate continuing education credits (45 hours, with 15 from Menopause Society activities, during the 3-year timespan).

If you earn the MSCP certification, you would receive from The Society the following materials to proudly display your accomplishment to patients and colleagues:
- Certificate
- MSCP logo for your use (eg, letterhead, website)
- Suggested press release for alerting your local media outlets
