2007 Annual Aesculapius Award
for Excellence in Communicating Health Information to the Public

The North American Menopause Society (NAMS) is pleased to announce that its Web site has won the prestigious Aesculapius Award for health-related Web sites, marking eight years that the NAMS site has been acknowledged by the Health Improvement Institute (HII), a non-profit organization that sets quality assurance standards for excellence in health communications. This highest honor was recently bestowed by a panel of judges representing the fields of healthcare, web publishing, and multimedia who evaluated entries based on usability, design, innovation, content, credibility, readability, and performance. The Aesculapius Awards are announced annually in December.

“The NAMS Web site attracts over 50 million hits and more than
1.6 million visits each year,” said Sharon Somerville, NAMS Internet Services Manger. “Our portal-based home page and constituent landing pages were redesigned last June to better meet the challenge of serving five unique populations with diverse interests and scientific content requirements. The latest site developments have created a more enjoyable user experience and expanded access to the site’s abundant content.”

“This award is a great honor and we’re pleased about the recognition of our efforts,” said Wulf H. Utian, MD, PhD, DSc(Med), NAMS Executive Director. "Our award-winning Web site is but one of the many educational resources that we offer to help meet the Society’s mission of promoting the health and quality of life of women through an understanding of menopause.”

NAMS is proud that it can provide needed information about a health condition that affects the health of 100% of women worldwide. The Society’s membership of 2,000 professionals representing a variety of disciplines—including clinical and basic science experts from medicine, nursing, pharmacy, anthropology, sociology, psychology, and complementary/alternative medicine—makes NAMS uniquely qualified to serve as the definitive resource for health professionals and the public for accurate, unbiased information about menopause.

Visitors to the NAMS site are also invited to review all the consumer and professional educational offerings from the Society that are available in the NAMS Web Store. Many materials are provided free of charge, others at deeply discounted prices.
