"Where does NAMS get its funding?"

The North American Menopause Society (NAMS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity that promotes the health and quality of life of women through an understanding of menopause. The NAMS Foundation is also a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity, organized solely to secure funds to support NAMS research and educational initiatives.

Much of the Society's support comes from membership dues from a diverse group of health disciplines and those who wish to participate in the Society's programs. NAMS also convenes scientific meetings and receives registration fees from attendees as well as fees from companies that wish to have a booth in the Exhibit Hall at the Annual Meeting. NAMS publishes the scientific journal Menopause and receives a royalty payment from the publisher that includes revenue from advertising and reprint sales. Additional sources of fee revenue include sales of educational materials.

In addition to these fees, NAMS and the NAMS Foundation also accept charitable contributions from corporations, foundations, and individuals (members and nonmembers) to support the educational programs, research, and other activities of the Society.

Gifts and grants are considered unrestricted unless specifically restricted by the donor. The NAMS and NAMS Foundation Boards have full and sole fiduciary responsibility for allocating all unrestricted and restricted gifts and grants for activities of the Society.

With the receipt of tax-deductible gifts and grants, NAMS is able to provide a vast array of scientific meetings as well as professional and consumer educational materials related to menopause.
