CLEVELAND, Ohio (February 9, 2011)—The Mission of The North American Menopause Society (NAMS), a nonprofit scientific organization, is to promote the health and quality of life of all women during midlife and beyond through an understanding of menopause and healthy aging. To help meet its Mission, NAMS developed a certification exam in 2002. Successful completion of the exam leads to the 3-year credential of NAMS Certified Menopause Practitioner (NCMP). All licensed healthcare providers interested in menopause are strongly encouraged to demonstrate their expertise by earning this certification.
“Menopausal medicine, the health care for women at midlife and beyond, has become increasingly complex. The practitioners certified by NAMS have demonstrated a commitment and a competence that all women can utilize when choosing an appropriate healthcare provider,” said Steven R. Goldstein, MD, FACOG, CCD, NCMP, NAMS President.
Women who desire to find a clinician who is clearly interested in menopausal medicine can seek out one of the 600 plus NCMPs. A searchable database of NCMPs by location is available on the NAMS website.
The Mission of NAMS, a nonprofit scientific organization, is to promote the health and quality of life of all women during midlife and beyond through an understanding of menopause and healthy aging. The Society’s membership of over 2,000 professionals representing a variety of disciplines—including clinical and basic science experts from medicine, nursing, pharmacy, anthropology, sociology, psychology, and complementary/alternative medicine—makes NAMS uniquely qualified to serve as the definitive resource for health professionals and the public for accurate, unbiased information about menopause (www.menopause.org).
