The program is beyond my expectations. I hit the mentor jackpot with JoAnn Manson. She leads me down the path and lets me know what to do, but just so far. Then she lets me proceed on my own.

I consider mentoring to be one of the privileges of entering the ranks of senior faculty.

The NAMS Mentorship Program, sponsored by the Research Affairs Committee, matches a Mentor and Mentee based on mutual research interests. This program for NAMS members is the quintessential realization of the NAMS Mission—to promote in North America the health and quality of life of all women through an understanding of menopause and healthy aging.
The goals are as follows:
- Support career development of menopause practitioners and junior researchers
- Help launch careers in menopause research
- Enhance the NAMS goal to advance menopause research in North America
- Provide yet another benefit of NAMS membership
Through the 2-year term, potential Mentees are paired with a Mentor based on the compatibility between the Mentor’s research interests and the Mentee’s research goals. Take a look at the three current stellar pairs, including the new 2011-2013 class.
During the term, each pair must identify a specific research project to be developed, completed, and disseminated through the NAMS Mentorship Program first with a poster or oral presentation at a NAMS Annual Meeting, followed by submission of a research paper to a peer-reviewed journal.
Learn more about the Mentorship Program from interviews with Mentor-Mentee pairs. These interviews, published in Menopause, were conducted by Leon Speroff, MD:
All members will receive an email in the Spring of 2012 announcing the acceptance of new applications.
