The North American Menopause Society (NAMS) convenes an annual scientific meeting each fall that is considered the top menopause-related meeting in North America. This meeting is a unique forum where representatives from multiple healthcare disciplines and nations come together to present research and discuss the most current clinical recommendations.
- A total of 1,117 registrants attended the meeting, while 1,163 attended in 2008. Those who attend are the world’s key opinion leaders, influencing thousands more.
- Of these, 66.4% were physicians (compared to 64.9% in 2008).
- Several other professions were represented, including nurse practitioners (9.5% vs 9.1% in 2008), a group of allied health professionals who play a major role in menopause management.
- Other professions included physician assistants, nurses, certified nurse midwives, pharmacists, mental health professionals, nutritionists, exercise specialists, researchers, administrators, and editors—representing the diverse professions interested in menopause management.
- A total of 39 countries were represented in 2009 (vs 45 in 2008), indicating the importance of the NAMS Annual Meeting around the world.
- 81.1% of the attendees were from the United States (vs 76.4% in 2008).
- A total of 116 scientific abstracts of previously unpublished research were presented— 22 as oral presentations and 94 as posters.
- Press attendance reached 12, with dozens of interviews conducted before, during, and after the meeting.
- Proceedings of the meeting extend to millions more through a complimentary Webcast until September 30, 2010.
- Scientific abstracts are published in the November/December 2009 issue of the NAMS journal, Menopause (print circulation 3,500 plus thousands more through online and institutional subscriptions), then posted on the National Library of Medicine database, MEDLINE.
NAMS is grateful for the financial support from commercial sources for the 2009 Annual Meeting.
- A total of 26 exhibitors displayed their products and services to thought-leaders who cannot typically be reached elsewhere.
- Six companies provided sponsorship fees to be designated Premier Sponsors of the meeting.
- A record number of meeting-related sponsorships also supported the meeting.
- Representatives from commercial supporters were invited, as usual, to attend scientific sessions and learn from the expert presentations.
- Commercial supporters were invited, as usual, to submit abstracts of research conducted by their companies.
- The NAMS Annual Meeting continues to be the ideal venue for marketers of products and services related to women’s health at menopause and beyond.
