There is a pressing need for more menopause discussion (support) groups! More positive health outcomes have been demonstrated when women are better informed and have the opportunity to discuss their particular situation. Although many healthcare providers offer lectures to large audiences in their communities, a smaller forum (5-10 group members) gives women the chance to completely share how they feel at this time in their lives – something often missing from office visits and lectures. What's more, offering menopause discussion groups will help build your menopause practice, and help reinforce your leadership position in your community as a menopause expert.
The How to Develop a Menopause Discussion Group booklet (2/02) can help. It offers a step-by-step approach to assist healthcare providers who know the current science about menopause, but may not know how to determine if communities need groups, how to advertise, whether or not to charge a fee, basics of group dynamics, and how to measure outcomes.
Thanks to unrestricted educational grants from the E.L. Wiegand Foundation and the National Hormone Foundation that helped defray developmental costs, this 36-page booklet is available to healthcare professionals at an affordable price. (Please note that grantors had no control over the content of the booklet.)
