Focusing Your Practice on Menopausal Women

The reasons for focusing a practice on menopausal women are as diverse as the clinicians who undertake such projects and their objectives for doing so. Their rationale and objectives vary, depending on many factors, such as the healthcare needs of  peri- and postmenopausal women in the area, available healthcare resources, type of menopause practice, the clinician’s expertise and interest, and the socioeconomic status of the community itself.

The Focusing Your Practice on Menopausal Women booklet (9/05) can help. It offers a step-by-step approach to assist healthcare professionals assess, design, and evaluate a plan to either expand an existing menopause practice or to add menopause-related services. Some practices will be designed to provide comprehensive services, encompassing most or all aspects of care for peri- and postmenopausal women at one site. Some practices will be smaller, focusing specifically on health care for midlife women as it relates to menopause. Other practices will focus on a specific area associated with menopause, such as osteoporosis or mental health.

The information and suggestions in this 40-page guide were gathered from physicians, nurse practitioners, administrators, and educators throughout the United States and Canada who have experience with healthcare practices serving peri- and postmenopausal women. NAMS hopes that this guide will be of service to you.
