New NAMS HT Position Statement
Be sure you read the Society’s most current recommendations regarding hormone therapy (HT) use for menopause-related symptoms and the risk-benefit ratio of HT on sexual function, urinary health, osteoporosis, cardiovascular effects, diabetes, breast and endometrial cancer, mood, and cognition. A handy addendum explains the concept of risk and presents suggestions of how to present risk data to patients. The 2008 HT Position Statement is published in the July/August 2008 issue of the Society’s official journal, Menopause.

NAMS and Medscape Offer More Education About HT
NAMS continues its collaboration with Medscape to bring healthcare providers interactive Web-based educational programs addressing the latest data on hormone therapy. CME is available.

Menopause Impact Factor Impressive
The 2007 SCI OBGYN Impact Factor list has just been released and the NAMS journal has rated 3rd. Menopause has appeared in the top 5 for the last few years, beating out journals five times its age – a remarkable performance. Kudos to founding Editor-in-Chief Isaac Schiff, MD, and all of you who submitted your research and provided peer review!
“Managing Breast Cancer Risk in Postmenopausal Women”
Arriving with the July/August issue of Menopause is this timely educational supplement written by Guest Editor Victor G. Vogel, MD, MHS, and seven other specialists in women’s health and cancer. This overview, supported by a grant from Eli Lilly and Company, defines the critical findings regarding breast cancer risk and the chemopreventive agents to reduce that risk. CME is available in print and on the NAMS Web site.

NAMS Support Increases
Through grants from Wyeth over the past several years, NAMS has presented awards to dozens of nonmember nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and certified nurse midwives who had demonstrated excellence in clinical practice, bringing 10 deserving winners to the Annual Meeting each year. However, because of new regulatory guidelines, grant funding can no longer be used for this type of program with prescribers.
NAMS and Wyeth continue to recognize the importance of these professionals to menopause practice. This year’s grant supported distribution of 2,700 complimentary copies of the NAMS textbook to these audiences.
