NAMS Executive Director
This is an extremely important time for the Society as it searches for a new Executive Director when, after 20 years of extraordinary service, Dr. Wulf Utian, the Founder, moves toward retirement from the NAMS Executive Director position at the end of 2009. The NAMS Search Committee would like your input regarding potential candidates for the position.

Long-Range Planning
We know you’ll want to set aside time to honor Dr. Utian at his retirement from NAMS at year-end 2009. Mark your calendars now for (1) celebration activities at the NAMS 2009 Annual Meeting, to be held in San Diego on September 30-October 3 and (2) the gala celebration dinner on October 24, 2009, in Cleveland. Details will be released in late 2008.
NAMS Annual Meeting Update
The NAMS 2008 Annual Meeting will convene September 24-27 at the Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel in Orlando, Florida. Don’t miss what’s often been called the best meeting in women’s health.


Call for Abstracts
The deadline for abstract submissions for the NAMS 2008 Annual Meeting is April 30. Abstracts of truly late-breaking research completed after the April 30 deadline may be submitted until July 30.

The National Osteoporosis Foundation (NOF) has updated its Physician’s Guide for the Prevention and Treatment of Osteoporosis, prompted by the publication of FRAX™, a new fracture risk assessment tool from the World Health Organization.

NAMS at ACOG
If you’re going to the annual meeting of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) this May in Washington, DC, be sure to come to the NAMS session! NAMS is ACOG’s Special Interest Group for Menopause and Postmenopausal Sexual Health and, as such, will host a lecture by NAMS president-elect, Dr. JoAnn Pinkerton, on May 6 from 5:00 to 6:30 PM in Meeting Room 336 of the convention center. Also be sure to stop by the NAMS exhibit (#413) to say hello!
NAMS at IMS
Those attending the International Menopause Society (IMS) meeting in Madrid are invited to register for the daylong NAMS Postgraduate Course on May 19. Featuring nine leading experts in the field, this practical course addressing contemporary menopause clinical care offers an opportunity to earn 5.25 CME hours from NAMS.

Recent FDA Ruling about Compounded HT Incites Outcry
Since the FDA’s warnings of January 9 regarding compounded so-called “bioidentical hormone replacement therapy,” the enraged outcry from some pharmacists, healthcare providers, and consumers has been substantial. NAMS supports the FDA’s stance.
