 Utian Tribute

Dr. Wulf Utian—the
Honorary Founding President of NAMS and Executive Director of the Society since its inception 20 years ago, and the Founding President of the NAMS Foundation—will retire from NAMS and the NAMS Foundation at year end 2009. A series of tribute events are planned to achieve a wide range of goals:

  • To commemorate Dr. Utian’s vision and leadership within NAMS and the NAMS Foundation.
  • To commemorate Dr. Utian’s contribution to menopause management worldwide and to celebrate a career of supporting women’s health and quality of life. See Dr. Utian’s biography here.
  • To recognize his retirement from NAMS, and to instill confidence in the future of NAMS with new leadership.
  • To increase awareness of the NAMS Mission to promote the health and quality of life of women through an understanding of menopause.
  • To stimulate donations and grants to support the NAMS Mission.
  • To establish through donations and multi-year pledges a new fund for the future—called “The Utian Fund”—within the NAMS Foundation. The purpose of these monies will be to support scientific programs that translate research findings into practical guidelines for clinical practice.
  • To provide a truly special series of events from beginning to end—so appropriate for a person who has meant so much to so many.

Comprehensive Plan

Dr. Utian’s retirement is of importance and interest to several constituencies and the comprehensive plan provides appropriate ways for all to participate—NAMS members, other professional colleagues, industry, the media, former patients, and other consumers.
